Kenneth and Edith Breyers

Location: Nebraska

Age at the time of arrest: 74 and 75

Date of sentencing: November 2024

Summary:

Kenneth and Edith Breyers were sentenced to five years federal probation for their role in an interstate lottery fraud scheme, stealing $70,000 from an 80-year-old woman in Kentucky. They were also ordered to pay $55,000 in restitution towards the victim.

The Breyers contacted the victim and convinced her she won $18.5 million dollars in the lottery.  Further, the Breyers also convinced the victim that she had to pay taxes and fees first to claim her prize.  Interestingly, the Breyers had been made aware three separate times that they were under investigation by the U.S. Postal Service, yet they continued to carry out their scheme. Judge Bazis stated, “This is about the most brazen acts of defendants after they have been notified that they are under investigation not once or twice but three times in this case.”
